Prestwich pip Denton to title

CRICKET: Prestwich completed an unprecedented quadruple by pipping Denton St Lawrence to the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League title by a single point.

They beat second from bottom Thornham by 115 runs at the weekend to add the league title to the Walkden Cup, with the second team winning their championship and the Hulme Trophy.

While previous title winners Denton St Lawrence were taking only four points from their match at Glossop, Prestwich were making 248 runs for the loss of three wickets against Thornham on Saturday.

Craig Duxbury was unbeaten on 138 runs and Ian Walker hit 48 runs before Chris Humphreys' six wickets for 48 runs helped to skittle Thornham for 133.

Prestwich's success made up for the disappointment of losing the title to Denton St Lawrence on the last day of the 2005 season.

Rock bottom Stand ended their nightmare season on a happy note by winning at home to Roe Green by 43 runs.

They amassed 204-9 with Holt scoring 48 runs before Trent Scott took 5-66 as Roe Green were dismissed for 161 runs.

Clifton and Unsworth finished the 16-strong Lake Garage Central Lancashire League in third and 11th spot respectively.
