Tigers capture classy Kiwi lock

SEDGLEY Park Tigers have further strengthened their squad for next season by signing Kiwi lock Sam Woods and four players on loan from relegated Leeds Carnegie.
They are scrum half Danny White, who turned out for Doncaster last season, winger Peter Wackett, lock Rob Anderson and back rower Andy Boyde.
A fifth Leeds junior is also expected to make regular trips over the Pennines and the Tigers are set to sign a ‘pacey winger’ from another Guinness Premiership club.
Sedgley have also brought in conditioning guru Aled Rowlands, who works as a senior lecturer in sport and PE at Leeds Trinity and All Saints College, after he turned down a full-time role with his previous club Doncaster.
But Sedgley’s team manager Geoff Roberts is most excited by the arrival of the aggressive and experienced 28-year-old Woods, who is 6ft 6ins tall and weighs more than 19 stone.
Roberts said: "Sam is a big, physical ball carrier as well as a quality line-out forward and we are looking to him to contribute a hard, physical edge.
"He has a good rugby pedigree having represented New Zealand at under-16s and under-19s levels, he has played for Auckland under-21s as well as in the NPC for North Harbour and as a full-time professional in Hong Kong.
"He then took a year off to travel the world before coming to the UK to play for Orrell. He was tipped to go all the way and become an All Black but injury prevented him from achieving that goal, although he is fully recovered now."
