Four Tigers sign new contracts

SEDGLEY Park Tigers’ hopes of playing entertaining and relegation avoiding football in National League One next season have been boosted by four key players penning new contracts.

Lock Glen Townson, hooker Jonny Roddam, ex-England A fly half Phil Jones and former Scotland centre Andy Craig have all signed up for next season.

But the Tigers are looking internally at senior players for a new backs coach following Andy Northey’s departure.

Sedgley’s manager Geoff Roberts is particularly pleased to see Jones, who was the fourth highest points scorer in the league last season with 225 points, commit his immediate future to the club.

Roberts said: "We are delighted he’s back and he’s keen to get a good pre-season under his belt as last season he underwent an operation and missed the first six weeks.

"He’ll always attract interest from other clubs but he enjoys playing here."

The provisional fixtures for next season, which have yet to be set in stone, show that Sedgley will begin their campaign with a home game against Rotherham Titans on Saturday, August 30.

The following week the Tigers will play their first derby against newly-promoted Manchester at Grove Park. Sedgley will then host London Welsh on Saturday, September 13, and the opening month will be rounded off with a trip to Nottingham.
