A week of woe

25/ 9/2008

RADCLIFFE Borough have endured a miserable week in the UniBond First Division North.

They lost 3-1 at fourth-placed Curzon Ashton on Monday night and Saturday’s home game with unbeaten Durham City, who lie sixth in the table, was called off due to Borough player Martyn Forrest collapsing during the match.

He had a fit after his tongue had curled up and blocked his airway but, thankfully, he had a comfortable night in hospital and was released the next day.

On Monday night, Radcliffe were missing Forrest, the suspended Steve Howson, hamstring injury victim Greg Traynor and Lee Connell, who is on loan at Ashton United. But Andy Dawson and Tom Rutter were back in the squad having been recalled from their loan spells at Ramsbottom.

Radcliffe were looking to build on the previous week’s 1-0 victory at Lancaster City and maintain their 100 per cent away record for the season.

But, despite taking the lead with a 46th minute Lee Unsworth goal, Radcliffe simply did not play well enough and they now lie 13th in the table.

Borough face a double-header of league fixtures this coming week.

They visit table-topping Bamber Bridge on Saturday, September 27, kick-off 3pm, in a re-arranged fixture brought about by original opponents Garforth Town being in FA Cup action that day. Radcliffe will then be looking for their first home win of the season as they host ninth-placed Lancaster City on Tuesday, September 30, kick-off 7.45pm.

Radcliffe will now visit Harrogate Railway instead of Bamber Bridge on Saturday, November 15.
