Borough dumped out of FA Cup

RADCLIFFE Borough crashed out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 defeat to North Eastern Counties League champions Winterton Rangers on Saturday.

Griff Jones missed a penalty for Radcliffe, who made two team changes with Martyn Forrest and Lee Unsworth coming in for Andy Waine and work-bound Neil Chappell. And Steve Howson was sent off straight after scoring Borough’s only goal of the game in the second half.

But although there will be no money-spinning FA Cup run this season the club’s coffers have been boosted by a vast increase in turnover at the Boro Club since couple Gary Calderbank and Alison Greenall took over the running of the bar and function building in October.

Radcliffe have been able to sign 23-year-old former Wigan and Preston North End midfielder Greg Traynor this week.

And they have turned down an enquiry for midfielder Mark Jones.

There have been rumours flying about of young centre back Craig Dawson and striker Howson being the subjects of recent bids from higher league clubs but those rumours have been denied by Borough chief executive David Murgatroyd

Eighth-placed Radcliffe face a double-header of UniBond League First Division North fixtures this week. They visit winless Harrogate Railway on Saturday, September 6, kick-off 3pm, and host fourth-placed Clitheroe on Tuesday, September 9, kick-off 7.45pm.
