Heys draw and Standians win

PRESTWICH Heys lie eighth in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division table following a 1-1 home draw with 10th-placed Rochdale Sacred Heart.

Jon Monks scored Heys’ solitary goal on Saturday and Prestwich were playing at Walshaw Sports as the Advertiser went to press last night, Wednesday, September 3.

Standians moved up to ninth spot in the first division table with a 3-2 home win against pointless Fives Athletic.

Standians, who won at Salford Victoria by the same score last Wednesday night, flew out of the blocks on Saturday and they were 3-0 up after only 30 minutes of play thanks to Ryan Clark’s thunderous drive plus a superb free kick and a close range finish from James Nutt.

But Standians were forced to field a patched up side. And they were reduced to nine men following a brawl which was sparked by a rash and late tackle on Standians’ Adam O’Shaunessey

Fives also had a man dismissed but they made the most of their 10 versus nine numerical advantage.

They scored two goals to set up a grandstand finish but Standians battled hard to secure a deserved win.

Standians should welcome back Steve Critchley, Chris Jepson, Toni Eronini and maybe even new signing Craig Jones for their cup game this week.

And Standians are hopeful of completing the transfer of Mark Denham from Walshaw this week.
