Prestwich slump comes to an end

8/ 5/2008

PRESTWICH Heys stopped the rot in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division by winning 3-0 at second from bottom Breightmet United on Saturday.

The defending champions had lost four of their last six games and drew the other two after going down 3-0 at eighth-placed East Manchester on Saturday.

But Tuesday night’s success, which came courtesy of goals by Rhys Hardie (2) and Scott McManus, saw Heys rise from ninth to seventh in the table and ended any chance of them finishing in the bottom half of the league for the first time since the turn of the century.

Heys will round off their season with a trip to 13th-placed Stockport Georgians on Saturday, May 10, kick-off 2.30pm.

Prestwich’s reserve side ended the second division season in the runners-up spot after beating mid-table Wythenshawe Amateurs 2-0 at home.

Stand Athletic secured a seventh-placed finish to their first division campaign by winning 6-3 at third from bottom Wilmslow Albion.

And Stand’s reserve side occupy fifth spot in the third division after being awarded the points on offer from their scheduled fixture at fourth-placed Chapel Town reserves.
