Title hopes over?

PRESTWICH Heys look to have finally given up hope of retaining their Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division title.

They looked disinterested on Saturday as they slumped to a 3-0 home defeat to 13th-placed Pennington and slumped to eighth spot in the table.

A title triumph is by no means impossible as Prestwich are just seven points off the title pace with 30 points left to play for.

But the manner of the Pennington defeat suggests that Prestwich have not got the drive or desire to produce a title charge between now and the end of the season.

Prestwich’s reserve side also endured a weekend of woe, losing their Open Trophy semi-final at Springhead reserves 5-4.

Springhead reserves are six places below Prestwich reserves in the second division table.

Fourth from bottom Stand Athletic recorded a creditable 1-1 draw with sixth-placed Wythenshawe Town in Division One.

But Stand’s fourth-placed reserve side were edged out 2-1 at mid-table Wythenshawe Town reserves in the fourth division.
