Chairman targets UniBond League

PRESTWICH Heys have appointed John Hunter as their permanent chairman.

Hunter had been doing the job in a caretaker capacity since Adie Moran’s death last summer.

And he says that he is relishing the chance to help push Heys forward up the non-league ladder after a unanimous vote in a recent committee meeting saw him become a permanent fixture at the Sandgate Road-based outfit.

Hunter, who is looking beyond the North West Counties League as a long-term objective of the club, said: "Having watched Heys’ success over the last few years, when the opportunity came along to come on board as chairman of this fantastic club I took it without hesitation.

"I would like to carry on Adie’s hopes and dreams and continue the fine work he started on getting this club back on the non-league map.

"There’s a group of extremely dedicated club members and supporters who all want the very best for Heys.

"Getting the ground work done and moving into the counties is the first, very important, step.

"But then we need to look further ahead with UniBond League status being our long-term goal."

Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester Football League Premier Division champions Prestwich did not play at the weekend but Stand Athletic’s two teams were in action.

Stand’s 10th-placed first team were defeated 4-3 at second-placed Avro in Division One.

And in Division Two, Stand’s reserve side cemented third spot with a 5-4 home victory over mid-table Wythenshawe Town reserves.
