Connell dilutes relegation fears

6/ 3/2008

FOOTBALL: A LEE Connell strike and Radcliffe’s first clean sheet since the beginning of December gave Borough a much needed and well deserved home win against mid-table Rossendale on Saturday.

The 1-0 win avenged rock bottom Radcliffe’s 2-1 defeat at Rossendale in August and moved them to within three points of the UniBond League Division One North survival zone.

Connell scored the vital goal with a powerful shot from the edge of the box on 33 minutes. A minute earlier, 25-goal marksman Steve Howson had crashed a Radcliffe penalty against the crossbar.

Radcliffe visit sixth-placed Ossett Albion in the semi-finals of the Presidents Cup on Saturday, March 8, kick-off 3pm. They then host fourth-placed Bradford Park Avenue in the league on Tuesday, March 11, kick-off 7.45pm.

Borough are hopeful of signing two contracted players from Bradford Park Avenue in time for the Ossett game – prolific striker Griff Jones, who scored 18 goals in 20 games for Witton Albion last season, and former Radcliffe midfielder Mark Jones.
