A second half strike from Andy Morrell gave Bury the points to keep up their promotion momentum.
Morrell struck from 12 yards to give the Shakers their fifth straight win.
But they had to withstand a late rally from the hosts to extend their unbeaten run to seven games and stay in third place.
Keeper Wayne Brown made a smart save from Zesh Rehman while Luke O'Brien smashed a shot narrowly over the goal.
The Bantams almost stole a point in injury time but Peter Thorne headed narrowly wide when unmarked.
The game looked like being Bradford boss Stuart McCall's last in charge after he pointedly applauded each side of the ground after the final whistle.
