Hurst is fit

BURY are back to full strength again as striker Glynn Hurst has been passed fit for this week’s fixtures with Aldershot and Stockport.

Hurst has missed Bury’s last two games with a back injury but he has been training all week and was set to play in a reserve team fixture at Tranmere as the Advertiser went to press last night, Wednesday, October 1.

Manager Alan Knill said: "It is a big relief to have Glynn available again. That helps everything.

"We only have three established strikers here and when one of them is missing I can’t really change things when a game is not going our way.

"In Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Wycombe they made three attacking substitutions but, because of Glynn’s injury, I had to stick with Andy Bishop and Andy Morrell for the whole game.

"Glynn is looking sharp in training and he will feature in this week’s games."

Table-topping Bury visit seventh-placed Aldershot in League Two on Saturday, October 4, kick-off 3pm. They then host arch-rivals Stockport County in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday, October 7, kick-off 7.45pm.

Knill said: "Our great start to the season will really be tested this week as we have got two difficult games.

"My assistant manager Chris Wilder worked in the Conference last season and he has been telling me how good Aldershot were that season.

"They have carried on the momentum since moving up to League Two and it is clear from the reports of their games and the dvds that I have seen that they are a really good team.

"The same is certainly true of Stockport. I was really impressed with them last season and it is no surprise to me that they are doing well in League One. They are looking as though they will be a mid-table team in that division this season.

"They are a pass and move side that are good to watch but I like to think that the same is true of us these days. Our home record is fantastic and we should give them a good game.

"I will not be fielding a weakened team and I don’t think they will do either. The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is important for teams like us. It is a chance to earn some money and there is a trip to Wembley at the end of it."

Knill has been nominated for manager of the month for the second month running.

He will find out whether he has won or not when the result is announced today, Thursday, October 2.

Bury skipper Paul Scott has also received some recognition this week.

He has been named in the League Two team of the week for the third time this season, taking the Shakers’ total number of team of the week nominations to six.

Meanwhile, Bury left back David Buchanan has revealed that his days as a Northern Ireland Under-21s international are over.

He said: "I’ve finished with the under-21s now. We did have a game against Germany a couple of months ago but we all got a letter telling us that they are going to play the younger lads now. So, for me, it is just a case of playing well for Bury and trying to get into the full international side now. But there are some very good players in front of me at the moment."
