ALAN Knill fears that Bury will have to go into their League Two clash of the titans with Wycombe Wanderers this Saturday without powerhouse centre back Efe Sodje and lethal finisher Glynn Hurst.
Sodje missed the second half of Bury’s 2-1 win at Barnet at the weekend with an ankle injury while Hurst missed the trip all together due to a back injury.
Manager Alan Knill said: "They are both looking doubtful for Saturday and if they miss the game we will just have to get on with it.
"Efe has started every game this season and he has been outstanding for us. If he can’t play on Saturday it will be a real blow.
"But the good thing is that we have got good cover in young Ryan Cresswell.
"I am sure that he can do well at this level – that’s why I signed him.
"He did well in pre-season for us and was unlucky not to be in the team at the start of the season.
"Unfortunately for him, the team has done very well since then.
"He has had to be patient but he is itching for a chance to get into the team and if he gets that chance on Saturday it is up to him to take it."
Bury and Wycombe are the only unbeaten teams in League Two.
The Shakers are topping the table for the first time since 1997 having made their best start to a season for 60 years.
Wycombe are the team directly below them on goal difference and Knill expects sparks to fly when the two teams lock horns at Gigg Lane on Saturday, September 27, kick-off 3pm.
Knill said: "It has the makings of being a cracking game and I hope that it is.
"We will certainly look to come forward and knock it about and we will see where that gets us.
"Wycombe have got a good squad and they are really solid defensively. They play a 4-5-1 formation both at home and away and their record shows that they do not concede many goals.
"They have also proven themselves to be really dangerous from set pieces.
"Like us, they are in great form and it is going to be a tough game.
"But we feel as though we can beat anyone at the moment. The players just need to keep on showing the same level of commitment and will to win and we’ll continue to cause teams problems and make people sit up and take notice of us."
Bury will be defending a 100 per cent home record on Saturday and Knill admits that he feels great pride when he looks at the League Two table.
He said: "It’s a good feeling when I look at the table. We have had a great start to the season – things couldn’t have gone any better for us.
"But now is not the time for us to sit back and pat ourselves on the back. There is a long, long way to go and we want to prove that our success so far this season is not a flash in the pan."
