BURY will receive up to £225,000 in compensation for the departure of Nicky Adams – and Shakers manager Alan Knill is hoping to be given some of the money to buy players.

But, with Bury lying second in the table following an unbeaten start to the League Two season, Knill admits that his squad does not need strengthening at the moment.

He said: "I am delighted with how the tribunal went. If all goes well Leicester City will end up coughing up £225,000 and that is about right for a proven first team player.

"Nicky played 100-odd games for this club. He is a very talented young player and the club deserved a fair chunk of compensation having brought him through the ranks.

"I have no idea if I will be given some of the money to spend on players but I hope that I will.

"We don’t need any new players at the moment as the team is performing really well.

"But if I wanted to go into the loan market and if the right player became available then I am sure that the board would back me."

Bury will initially receive £100,000 for Wales Under-21s international midfielder Adams with further payments of £25,000 being triggered after he has played 15, 30 and 45 games for the club.

And, if Leicester gain promotion to the Championship during the course of Adams’ three-year contract with the Foxes, the Shakers will receive an additional £50,000.

Bury will also pick up 15 per cent of any profit that Leicester make should they ever decide to sell the player.

And Bury have another cash windfall on the horizon with a tribunal for Dale Stephens’ move to Oldham set for Monday, September 29.

Bury director Ian Harrop said: "Clubs have to realise that if they take a chance in taking our players they are going to have to pay for them.

"I will not be bullied by anyone. We had a strong case where Nicky Adams was concerned and we did our homework.

"Six years of this football club’s time was invested in Nicky Adams and we are happy with the tribunal outcome.

"But we didn’t want to lose Nicky. He is a very good player and he was offered the largest and best deal that we could afford.

"As I said to Nicky after the tribunal, we wish him the very best for the future. He has to get into that first team and stay there."
