Rochdale 1 Bury 1

30/ 8/2008

BURY’s attempts to make it four wins from their opening four games was thwarted by Adam Le Fondre’s second half penalty.

The Shakers were strong throughout the first period and took the lead in the seventh minute when Dale goalkeeper Sam Russell punched Brian Barry-Murphy’s corner into his own net.

Andy Bishop had two good opportunities to extend their lead in the first period, Russell redeeming himself by making two good saves.

Dale improved after the break and Le Fondre went close with a header before referee Tony Bates awarded the home side the first of two second-half penalties.

The first looked a dubious decision, Efe Sodje penalised for a challenge on Will Buckley. Wayne Brown preserved Bury’s lead by saving Chris Dagnall’s spot-kick.

Fortunately for Dale Buckley earned another spot-kick when fouled by Ben Futcher and this time Le Fondre hammered the ball down the middle of the goal to equalise.
