BURY produced a first-half masterclass to maintain their 100 per cent League Two start against Chesterfield.

Ben Futcher gave the Shakers a dream start with a third-minute opener before centre-half partner Efe Sodje doubled the lead in the 26th minute.

New signing Andy Morrell then marked his first Bury start with a 40th-minute goal, and although Lloyd Kerry pulled one back, the Shakers were comfortable winners.

Alan Knill’s men were quickly in front when Futcher hooked the ball in after Sodje headed back a Brian Barry-Murphy free-kick.

Chesterfield lost striker Jack Lester through injury before Shakers skipper Paul Scott had a header turned wide.

The resulting corner was cleared but Morrell headed the ball back in for Sodje, who took a touch before side-footing home.

Although the hosts controlled possession, they couldn’t break Bury down and the Shakers claimed their third on the break, with Mike Jones squaring for Morrell - in for the injured Andy Bishop - to convert with aplomb.

Bury keeper Wayne Brown didn't have a shot to save in the first half but Kerry gave Chesterfired hope with a 20-yard strike in the 53rd minute.

Brown then twice denied Jamie Ward as the Shakers stood firm late on.
