Ex-Blades youngster joins

BURY manager Alan Knill has landed young central defender Ryan Cresswell from Championship side Sheffield United.

Cresswell joins on a free transfer having got League Two experience last season with loan spells at Rotherham, Morecambe and Macclesfield.

He played for Mac against the Shakers last season and turned down a move to Turkish side Ferencvaros to sign a two-year deal at Gigg Lane.

The Blades insisted on a 50 per cent sell on clause.

Knill said: "With Paul Morgan leaving we were a bit short at the back, so I wanted a young centre half I could work with and develop."

Meanwhile Knill was able to field several trialists in Bury’s preseason friendly against Radcliffe Borough.

He said: "All the trialists have a good chance and it’s up to them to impress. Phil Marsh came out of the blue when his agent rang me, he’s a local lad so it’s easy for us to have a look at him.

"Michael Jones from Tranmere is another who comes highly recommended from people I respect.

"Danny Raachi is a right back from Huddersfield, who I’ve seen plenty of already. And we also have striker Nathan Joynes who was rated by Chris Waddle at Halifax.
