Woody: League career is over

15/ 5/2008

VETERAN defender Colin Woodthorpe admits that his Football League career has come to an end after being released by Bury.

But the 39-year-old has yet to decide whether to hang up his boots or carry on playing at non-league level.

Woodthorpe said: "League football has probably gone for me now. I’ve become quite comfortable with that.

"I’ve also become more comfortable with the fact that coaching is the future for me. But I am going to wait and see (about retiring as a player). I could do a year in non-league or I might decide that I really don’t fancy it."

Woodthorpe insists he has no regrets about his five-year spell at Gigg Lane.

He said: "Joining Bury was a good decision for me. Now over 200 games later it is the most games that I have played for one club and it will be good to leave that legacy of my career here at Gigg Lane because I think it was an important time to keep this club in league football."
