It's time to turn on the style

10/ 4/2008

SHAKERS boss Alan Knill may have overseen a fantastic turn around at Gigg Lane this season, but he won’t be happy until his side start playing more attractive football.

Bury have forced their way up to 14th in League Two under Knill’s stewardship and they won again on Saturday, beating Notts County 2-1.

But after Bury virtually ensured their safety in the league, Knill said he wants some flair in the final four games to go along with the results as preparations get underway for next season.

Despite the fantastic change around in fortunes at Gigg Lane, fans have continued to stay away and Knill wants to give them a reason to come back in their droves.

He said: "It was a fantastic three points on Saturday but I’d like to think we are a better side than our display would suggest. It wasn’t very pleasing on the eye from start to finish if we’re being honest.

"The style we play might not matter to everybody else but it does matter to me.

"We are here to entertain the fans and to try and play in the right way. That has always been my philosophy.

"The important thing is that the fans see we are trying to do things the right way."

The Shakers travel to Barnet on Saturday, who are one place above them in the table.

Bury handed the Londoners a 3-0 pasting at Gigg Lane earlier in the season and will be hoping for a similar display.

Knill said: "On Saturday I thought a bit of complacency might be creeping in - and it showed during our whole performance.

"We need to start putting in the performance to match the scorelines starting with the next game."

As the Advertiser went to press (Wednesday night) Bury were still unsure whether keeper Darren Randolph would be available for the Barnet game.

Randolph is currently on loan from Charlton, but their regular keeper Nicky Weaver is suspended for the game against Southampton this weekend and the Valley club initially invoked a clause in Randolph’s contract to take him back as cover.

But then confusion reined as they changed their mind.

A final decision was expected before the weekend.

Meanwhile, Dave Challinor continued to train this week and may be back next weekend.
