Bennett boost

AS HE extended his stay until the end of the season, Bury’s on-loan winger Elliott Bennett said he is loving life at Gigg Lane.

The 19-year-old Wolves youngster was happy to sign an extension to his deal after excelling during his time with The Shakers.

He said: "I’m really enjoying my time at Bury at the moment. Wolves have sent one of their scouts to watch me a couple of times, but I’ve not had any feedback from them.

"I just want to keep playing here and if the manager keeps picking me I will keep trying.

"Our form is brilliant. If we had started this run earlier or a couple of months ago, we could have been pushing for the play-offs or better. But you never know, there’s always next season. I just want to keep on playing games."

Bury boss Alan Knill was full of praise. He said: "Elliott has been great for us. He provides a fantastic outlet and holds the ball well. It really relieves the pressure having someone with pace to give the ball to. Him staying will be a major boost."

Bury will be without Paul Scott for the game against Notts County on Saturday (April 5).

The midfielder is suspended for two games after picking up a booking in the 1-0 win over Shrewsbury at the weekend.

Knill, who was this week nominated for the League Two manager of the month award, said: "We need to find someone to fill the hole in midfield and that could be Dale Stephens, though I haven’t decided yet.

"Notts County are desperate for points like all of us so it’ll be a hard game.

"I want to win the last five games. It’s a marker for next season, and I think that it is important for the supporters. We have to have a winning mentality."

Dave Challinor started training this week but is two weeks away from a return to action.
