IT IS not often that a team can feel pleased after suffering a second successive 1-0 home defeat.

But Andy Parrish echoed the mood in the Bury camp when he described the Shakers’ stirring display against Hereford on Saturday as ‘our best performance of the season’.

He said: “We can not play much better than that. It was a fantastic performance in places.

“You can tweak little things but if we take that performance into Chester on Saturday we will be fine. We were so unlucky not to get a win.”

It took Theo Robinson’s last minute wonder goal to earn high-flying Hereford, who are the form team in League Two, their luckiest three points of the season.

The on loan Watford striker showed the value of expert finishing. But Bury, who felt that they should have had a penalty for a foul on Glynn Hurst and have now lost their last three league games, should have been out of sight before Robinson fired in his fourth goal in as many outings.

Andy Bishop had an off day in front of goal. He could have ended up with a hat-trick.

His strike partner Hurst had a goal disallowed for off-side while Paul Scott and Nicky Adams both squandered decent scoring chances.

However, Adams was outstanding throughout and Bury fans will be hoping that he will extend his contract with the club which runs out at the end of the season.

Adams, who ran Hereford ragged for 90 minutes, said: “My agent sorts all that sort of stuff out. I just want to keep playing, do the business on the pitch and hopefully the other things will take care of themselves.”

One player to already leave Gigg Lane is midfielder Lee Bullock, who has returned to Hartlepool after his latest loan spell expired.

And striker Andy Mangan will be sidelined over Christmas after undergoing hernia surgery last Tuesday.

Team: Provett, Parrish, Haslam, Futcher, Morgan, Woodthorpe (Mangan, 90mins), Adams, Scott, Hurst, Bishop, Buchanan. Substitutes not used: Baker, Barry-Murphy, Hughes, McAllister. Attendance: 2,099.
