Roberts hailed as a special talent

24/ 7/2008

BOXING: WHITEFIELD'S Rhys Roberts took his perfect professional record to five wins from five fights with a comprehensive points win against Birmingham’s Sid Razak on Saturday night.

The 19-year-old featherweight won all four rounds at the Liverpool Olympia despite Razak having a weight and reach advantage and he will now head to New York to train with three-time world champion Carlos Ortiz at the famous Gleeson’s Gym.

Roberts will go to the Big Apple with other fighters from the Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club, including rising Bury star Scott Quigg.

Their veteran trainer Brian Hughes said: "I think that these (Roberts and Quigg) are special talents. They are like a breath of fresh air.

"Rhys boxed superbly on Saturday. His jabbing and combination punching was a sight to behold.

"The large Liverpool crowd applauded him warmly and clearly enjoyed his style of quick-silver boxing."
