ASBO terror teen is banned from centre

A TEENAGE yob who terrorised staff at a Whitefield learning centre has been banned from going anywhere near it.

Billy Hand is forbidden from the Shuttle Centre as part of a four-year Anti-Social Behaviour Order.

The court heard that last May the 19-year-old was banned from the centre after assaulting a member of staff.

He ignored the ban and returned to the centre where he and his friends threw fruit and eggs at cars, the building and users and damaged computer equipment.

In January of this year he went to the centre while a group of 12 year olds were doing football training and was rude and disrespectful to the youngsters’ parents.

This incident terrified a member of staff so much she refused to attend court.

Witnesses also said that on another occasion he encouraged his dog to try and bite visitors.

At Bury Magistrates’ Court, Hand, of Deyne Avenue, Prestwich, was fined £150 for causing a nuisance on educational premises, failing to answer bail and given £200 costs.

He was also given the ASBO which prevents him from touching or assaulting staff at the Albert Place centre, using abusive or foul language in a public place and causing criminal damage to any council buildings.

Barbara Lewis, from Bury youth service, said: "Billy had been a regular visitor to youth service activities at the Shuttle Centre and other venues for many years.

"He has used many hours of staff time in trying to engage him in positive activities.

"It is with regret that this action had to be taken but his persistent lack of engagement, abusive attitude and destructive behaviour left us no choice."
