1/ 5/2008

TRIBUTES have been paid to a pensioner who was found dead in Prestwich after being missing from her home for a week.

The body of Edyth Beryl Burney, 73, was found in Drinkwater Park, where she used to walk her dog, on Wednesday, April 30 by a member of the public after she had been missing for almost a week.

She was last seen at her home in the St Mary’s area of Prestwich at around 8pm on Thursday, April 25.

Edyth had recently been unwell and had suffered from poor vision.

Her death has been met with shock by everyone who knew her.

Close personal friend Dawn Barrett, who lives in Sedgley Park, had known Edyth for 15 years and had walked her dog with her in the park.

She said: "Edyth was a lovely woman, she would have done anything for anybody. We are all in shock.

"She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her."

A post mortem examination has concluded Edyth died of natural causes. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
