BRITAIN'S biggest second hand shop is a storehouse of bric-a-brac and bargains for those who enjoy exploring 10,000 square feet of all kinds of everything.
Jones at Constellation Mill at Radcliffe is where almost anything turns up eventually.
House clearances provide the main source of the goods, but there are also new items at half the high street prices, particularly in the furniture section.
The store takes up two-thirds of the ground floor of the former cotton mill, and there is plenty of car parking space for those who want to load up the car or van with bargains.
There are electrical goods at unbelievable prices: fridges and freezers from £85, dishwashers £80, dryers for £60. In the furniture section single beds including the mattresses for £65, double beds £115, kingsized for £125. A chest of drawers is priced at £60.
Barry Jones the proprietor, acknowledges that most of his customers are on tight budgets, but the store also attracts collectors seeking out the unusual resulting from his house and garage clearance service. Said Barry: “When I am selling items from a house clearance it is just something old – by the time it is re-sold by another dealer it could well be labelled ‘antique.’ Our aim is to turn items over quickly.”
This means that browsing through the store is always worthwhile for those able to spot a bargain. Even the mundane mountain bikes and fishing rods are worth a consideration when the price ticket is so small.
